Dr Milan Bassan

Dr Milan Bassan obtained his medical degree from the University of Western Australia in 2003, graduating with honours. He undertook his general gastroenterology training at Nepean Hospital, Wollongong Hospital, Liverpool Hospital and the Northern General Hospital (Sheffield, UK), obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2011.

Dr Bassan has subsequently undergone extensive postgraduate training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at Westmead Hospital and at the internationally recognised Therapeutic Endoscopy Group at St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Canada.

He has a particular clinical interest in therapeutic endoscopy including minimally invasive endoscopic resection for a variety of conditions including Barrett’s oesophagus and polyps in the stomach, duodenum and colon (including advanced precancerous lesions and early cancer); ERCP; stent placement for benign and malignant disease, endoscopic management of achalasia, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic dilation of strictures in the gastrointestinal tract. He has introduced minimally invasive submucosal endoscopic interventions to South West Sydney including endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for complete, single piece resection of advanced precancerous lesions and early cancers as well as the POEM procedure for achalasia.

His clinical research interests include quality improvement in endoscopic mucosal resection and new techniques in biliary endoscopy. He has been the recipient of several research awards for his work on endoscopic resection in the gastrointestinal tract and has performed live demonstration cases at national meetings. He has Conjoint Committee accreditation in Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy and ERCP and EUS.

Dr Bassan is dedicated to delivering the highest standard of healthcare to all patients and looks after patients with a wide variety of gastroenterological diseases. He is a VMO Gastroenterologist at Liverpool Hospital and a Conjoint Associate Lecturer of the University of NSW. He undertakes consultations at the Liverpool Day Surgery and performs endoscopic procedures at Liverpool Day Surgery (including endoscopic ultrasound) and Liverpool Hospital.
