November – A Movember to Remember

Wednesday, November 1st, 2017

Since its inception in 2003, Movember has become a powerful symbol of awareness for the most common conditions that take the lives of men, often prematurely. November is the month set aside for our men, or Mo Bros to grow moustaches in solidarity with their MO Sistas to raise funds for continuing research into:

Prostate Cancer
Testicular Cancer
Mental health and Suicide Prevention

The big driver for continuing research is to help more men not only live longer (men live on average 6 years less than women) it is to also promote a healthier and more contented life for our men.

The Movember Foundation is one with a proudly global presence and is independent of government funding. The advantage of this is investments into funding can be chosen, allocated and made much more swiftly and with full transparency.

The aim for the Movember Foundation is to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25% but the year 2030.

So What Can You Do?

Host an event, Get Moving or Grow a Mo!

By Growing a Mo for 30 days you can raise funds for Movember. What can you host? Why not set up a golf day or band night, dinner or lunch at your workplace or even amongst friends? Why not set a distance and men and women participate in walking, running or cycling, swimming or rowing to make a particular distance!

Here is something to think about and reflect upon this Movember…

“70% of men say their friends can rely on them for support, but only 48% say that they rely on their friends. In other words: we’re here for our mates, but worried about asking for help for ourselves. Reaching out is critical.”
